          The “Traditional” Wife

In a recent discussion on Perilous World Radio, Jan Masters and her brother-in-law David Masters explored the evolving concept of the “traditional wife,” inspired by the case of Erica Kirk. They referred to this phenomenon as the “Erica Kirk effect.” The conversation was prompted by an article featuring Jelly Roll’s wife, who defended Coco Austin—Ice-T’s wife—advocating for women to embrace a submissive role in marriage. Jan and David acknowledged that the term “submissive” often carries a negative connotation, evoking images of women who are passive or overly compliant, much like the stereotypical “Stepford wives.” However, they argued that Erica Kirk redefines this role by being a strong, accomplished woman while still embodying traditional values. They observed that many career-oriented women are experiencing a sense of loneliness and yearning for meaningful relationships, prompting them to seek out partners who can lead and inspire them. In this new light, the traditional wife can maintain her strength and independence while also nurturing her partner and their relationship. Erica’s approach, where she expresses commitment to being present for her husband and managing household responsibilities without guilt, represents a modern reinterpretation of a traditional role in marriage.
