Recounts the experiences of a county worker tasked with removing old hiking trail signs. What begins as a routine job quickly turns terrifying when he encounters supernatural occurrences: signs inexplicably reappear, strange footprints appear along the trails, and unsettling warnings are broadcast over his radio. The situation escalates when he discovers a macabre totem pole built from old signs, bones, and items belonging to missing people, which then animates into a monstrous figure. After losing consciousness, he awakens to find a pristine trail sign bearing his own name and death date, realizing that he has become a permanent, unseen fixture of the path, powerless to stop the cycle. Others, including his replacement, are subsequently drawn to the same fate by the entity formed from repurposed human remains and trail markers.
