This week is the final part of chapter 7, and in this part A.B. Bruce focuses on the sabbath day
observance or lack there of by Jesus and his disciples. Jesus and his disciples are accused of not
observing the fourth commandment up to par with the religious traditions of the day, and of course
Jesus has a perfect answer for them. Jesus tells them that they have missed the entire point of the
sabbath day and that it was never intended to be a complete abolition of work but that there was
exceptions to the rule in the form of mercy or necessity. The sabbath day should be a boon not a burden
to keep, and it should supply rest for the body and the soul. Jesus uses examples from history to teach a
lesson and then ends his argument with the statement that “God is working and so am I.”
