It was not the mission of Jesus to be poised on a mountain and above the people. It was his mission to be among people in their everyday lives. After the Transfiguration, Jesus makes an exodus back down the mountain. Jesus is indeed the bread of life and the cup of salvation, but he couldn’t take staying on the mountain and pressing the repeat button on “this is my son, with whom I am well pleased.” He knew he had to leave the mountain to engage the world.
