The Truth About Happiness

Myth: Given the right set of circumstances, anyone can be happy
The Pursuit of Happiness (by King Solomon)
First: he went after knowledge (Gnosticism)
Conclusion: Knowledge will leave you with more questions than answers
Second: he went after pleasure (hedonism)
Conclusion: Pleasure has the potential of much damage
Third: he tried his hand at hard work
Conclusion: You eventually run out of new ambitions
“A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, 25for without Him, who can eat or find enjoyment? 26To the man who pleases Him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner He gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. Ecclesiastes 2:24-25
Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. 14For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. Ecc. 12:13-14
“I have set the LORD always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure…11You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your
presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. Psalm 16:8-9, 11.
“I rejoice greatly in the Lord… 12I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:10a, 12-13
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” Philippians 4:4
ACE-ING HAPPINESS
Allow happiness to surprise you
“…you will fill me with joy in your presence…” Psalms 16:11b
Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you
the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Consider happiness from a different angle
End allowing circumstances, people and stuff to dictate happiness
…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…Galatians 5:22
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Philippians 4:4
