Bottom line: The best evidence of faith and hope: the way we love.
Conditional Love Vs Unconditional Love
First: “I’ll love you “If” kind of love (Phileo)
Second: “I love you “because” kind of love” (Eros)
Third: “I love you no matter what” kind of love (ref. 1John 3:16)
The myth: “Love if it feels good” (Conditional) (ref. Luke 6:32)
V 4a: Love is Patient:
Conditional: “What I have to do is more important than you”
Unconditional: “The most important thing in my schedule is you”
V 4b: Love is Kind:
Conditional: “I’ll be kind if it helps me get what I want”
Unconditional: “How can I lift and add value to you?”
V 4c: Love Doesn’t Envy:
Conditional: “I feel insecure and threatened when you’re with others”
Unconditional: “I celebrate your success and individuality”
V 5b: Love isn’t self-seeking:
Conditional: “We all are selfishly working toward self-interests”
Unconditional: “With God’s help, I will meet the need of others”
V 5c: Love isn’t easily angered:
Conditional: Won’t face its own weaknesses, failings and disagreements
Unconditional: Excepts limitations allowing others to fill in the gaps
Challenge:
1: Practice living in and enjoying God’s unconditional love for you
2: Embrace the reality: God wants to empower you to extend that love to others
3: All Eyes on Jesus!
