Self deception is said to be something that takes place in our subconscious. Because of this, many would argue that although we may not easily pinpoint what we are lying to ourselves about, the lie we have chosen to tell ourselves is likely to be a defence against something with a deeper meaning; something which we are not ready to accept or deal with any consequences which may come as a result.
