The Truth About Stress
May 10, 2020, Pastor Michael Dascoli
Myth: you can escape stress by a simple change of address
Truth: stress will find you anywhere
JESUS’ STRATEGY FOR HANDLING STRESS
1: The Principle of Identification: I Must Know Who I Am
“I testify on my own behalf.” John 8:18 RSV
2: The Principle of Dedication: I must Know Who I Am Trying To Please
Myth: In order to be happy, I must be liked by everybody
“I seek not to please myself but Him who sent me.” John 5:30
“We must obey God rather than human beings!” Acts 5:29
(ref. Ephesians 1:5-6 TPT)
3: The Principle of Prioritization: I must Know What I Want to Accomplish
“I know where I came from and where I am going.” John 8:14b
“I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God…, because that is why I was sent.” Luke 4:43
Challenge: Start your day asking, what’s the most important thing I can do today?
4: The Principle of Invocation: I must practice the presence of God
“…news about (Jesus) spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. 16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” Luke 5:15a-16
Challenge: make time to be alone with the Father
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
“Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” Psalm 27:14:
5: The Principle of Relaxation: I Must Take Time to Enjoy Life
(ref. Mark 6:31, Mathew 11:28-30 TPT )
Pray:
What is God’s Spirit saying to you today?
How must you respond?
