Watts creates scenes and figures that are completely covered in shadows, reminiscent of a Michael Mann film. Larkin Seiple, the cinematographer, adds artistic flair. However, concealing Pitt and Clooney's renowned comedic timing saps their energy. If we had seen complete smiles rather than just silhouettes, more might have come through. The movie stays away from overt drama, focusing instead on witty action mixed with clever dramatic moments. However, the crime thriller style runs the risk of adding a grimness to moments that isn't justified by the narrative. Since the film is a comedy, dazzling star power made more sense visually than masked reactions.
