It was from his perspective, of course, but we thought it was a compelling point of view. So today we’re going to respond to it and give our thoughts on the state of the GMRS in 2026.

The Biggest Mistakes New Radio Users Make 1:25
A lot of people get their first two-way radio, take it out of the box, start using it, and quickly come to the conclusion that something isn’t working the way it’s supposed to. Maybe the range isn’t what they thought it would be, maybe the audio doesn’t sound right, or maybe it just didn’t meet their overall expectations. However, in many cases, the issue isn’t the radio at all. It’s the misconception about how they think radios should operate versus how the technology actually works. Here are some of the different types of Two Way Radios.

September 25, 2025 TWRS-206 – Will We Have Ham Antennas in HOAs in 2025?

We discuss the reintroduction of a bill proposed to Congress in 2023 to allow ham radio operators to erect antennas in deed restricted communities, and the grass roots effort to get it passed. We’ll also take some of your comments and questions from our blog, YouTube channel and our Forum at TwoWayRadioForum dot com.
Intro :00
Billboard 1:15
New Bills Introduced to Allow Ham Radio Antennas in HOAs 1:30
In 2023 a bipartisan bill Titled Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act was introduced to the US House of Representatives. This bill proposed to amend the Communications Act of 1934 to prohibit the application of certain private land use restrictions to amateur station antennas in HOAs. It didn’t pass. Now, the bill is back, and with it a grassroots effort to push it through legislation from none other than the ARRL.
How You Can Help Get The Bills Passed 37:00
1. Write Congress. The most direct action right now is to send letters to your Representative and both Senators using the ARRL tool at send-a-letter.org. Personalize your note with local emergency-comms experience if you have it. The ARRL page summarizes the bills, explains the need for their passage
2. Track the bills. Bookmark the Congress.gov pages for H.R. 1094 and S. 459 to monitor cosponsors and committee movement. Momentum builds when lawmakers see sustained constituent interest.

Twelve years ago we discovered the original Baofeng UV-5R. While we weren’t the first to carry the radio, we were fairly early adopters of what many consider to be the most iconic and most popular walkie talkie in the world. Since then, Baofeng has introduced a number of different and interesting radios, and many at a very modest price. They recently introduced a new model called the DM-32UV that looks and feels high end and at a very low cost, and it’s DMR.
