The Ultimate Blessing: Supporting Our Family and Relatives

Listen Later

In this talk, Bhante from the Mahabodhi Society shares a deep message based on a beautiful verse from the Mangala Sutta: “Rendering help to relatives is a great blessing.” He explains that this is not only a moral duty but also an important part of living a meaningful and peaceful life. Bhante narrates a touching story from the Buddha’s time about the Sakyan and Koliyan kingdoms, who were about to go to war over the water of the Rohini River. Through the Buddha’s compassion and wisdom, the conflict was peacefully resolved, showing the value of wise actions and understanding in times of dispute. Bhante reminds us that just as the Buddha cared for his own family, we too should stand by our relatives and friends in their difficult times. He encourages everyone to help and comfort their loved ones—not only through material means but also with kindness and emotional support, which is the true meaning of this great blessing.
