In chapter 8 we were introduced to the first 4 trumpet judgments. Now in chapter 9 we see the fifth and the sixth trumpet judgments being released on the unbelieving world! John describes terrifying locusts unleashed upon the unrepentant oppressors for five months. As with the horses in the latter half of the chapter, the descriptions are meant to terrify and alarm the unrepentant. The imagery describing these creatures is borrowed from various portions of the Hebrew Bible. This vision shoes the increase of demonic activity in the world as the era of God’s patient restraint draws to a close. This one is intense, let’s jump in!!
