Welcome to Public Cloud for Public Good, a bi-weekly newsletter and podcast focused on making the world a better place. Whether that’s making peoples lives better, building services in the public & third sectors or thinking about coding more sustainably. This podcast is hosted by Aaron Booth, a Cloud Sustainability Consultant based in the UK.

This week Aaron is joined by Rhiannon Lawson who is currently working with the Welsh government as the Head of Standards for the Centre of Digital Public Services. Rhiannon shares with us her thoughts and experience of working with governments (including the Rwandan government), being a women in tech plus she offers us all some advice on how to work more sustainably. Rhiannon’s chosen charity for our £500 donation is Freedom 4 Girls. The charity’s missions and aims are to support those who menstruate by challenging the stigmas, taboos and gender inequalities associated with menstruation through education, provision of menstrual health management solutions and actively being at the forefront of the wider campaign against period poverty. For more information and to donate you can visit their website: https://www.freedom4girls.co.uk/

The business who we have chosen to shine a light on for this episode is Who Gives a Crap. Toilet paper is their way of making a difference and they donate 50% of their profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world. Did you know that roughly 40% of the global population don’t have access to a working toilet. That means that around 289,000 children under five die every year from diarrhoeal diseases caused by poor water and sanitation. This is changing thanks to the good people at Who Gives a Crap .For more info you can visit their website: https://uk.whogivesacrap.org/

This podcast is brought to you by Embue, a consultancy company helping businesses get a handle on their cloud spending and even reduce their environmental impact on the world at the same time: https://embue.co.uk
