We can all agree that the topic of authority can be challenging for high schoolers. They are coming into a new awareness and desire for autonomy, but they still live in the reality of having to follow the rules of several authority figures in their lives. In fact, in this season as they desire more and more autonomy they may be learning the reality that there will always be an authority to submit to. This can be even trickier for students who are following Jesus. Because as followers of Jesus, we’re supposed to submit to God’s authority and follow Jesus’ example of responding to authority. In this series, worship can be a powerful tool to remind students that they can trust God, both with their lives and the people in authority over them. As you prepare to lead students this week, spend time reflecting on what it looks like to trust God more and more to be in charge of your life, and pray that your students would encounter a God who they want to trust and follow.
