The book is an exploration of the shame that gay men hold from their sexual development and how it can manifest in destructive behavior in adulthood.  It's one of the first books I've read that explores the quick and dirty hookup and cruising culture that gay men have participated in and why it might be at the core of unstable relationships. not to mention that gay men have some of the high est rates of suicide than their straight peers.
