Asanda Beda spoke to Martin Mande – representative of the Refugee Communities Organisation AND Albert Mpazayabo who has has been in South Africa since 1997 – He left his home country (Rwanda) in 1994 during the war and he is currently based in Cape Town
World Refugee Day, international observance observed June 20 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the situation of refugees throughout the world.
The year 2019 has been declared by the African Union (AU) as the “Year of Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons: Towards Durable Solutions to Forced Displacement in Africa” which is yet another gesture worth saluting.
But for thousands of refugee men and women in South Africa, it is sad to note that, like all the previous years, they will be spending this day with little to commemorate.
