‘The Villain Next Door’ kicks off with a power move so audacious, it’s almost admirable. Im So-hyeon, the icy heir to Lyrical, confesses his love to his secretary, Park Se-young. Her response? NO. His response? Moving in next door, because if you can’t win her over with charm, why not try geographic proximity? Se-young, our supposedly resilient orphan secretary with a crippling fear of thunderstorms, spends the rest of the drama either dodging his advances or dramatically passing out on his shoulder (thanks, soju). Meanwhile, So-hyeon deploys every K-drama trick in the book: buckling her seatbelt (Tiffany’s weakness), piggyback rides (Jieun’s soft spot), and saving her from ruin.
