A man from Newport News was one of two U.S. Army soldiers killed Saturday in Afghanistan when their vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device, according to the Department of Defense. The two men were Staff Sergeant Ian P. McLaughlin, 29, from Newport News and Private first class Miguel A. Villalon, 21, from Joliet, Illinois.
