WEEK 6: PSALMS 29-35
The Voice of the Lord - Psalm 29
PSALM 29
Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon leap like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning.
The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, "Glory!"
The Lord sits entroned over the flood; the Lord is entroned as King forever.
The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.
"This is a song of thunder. This is a song of transcendent holiness. This is a song of dancing trees and running mountains...
We've built churches and sermonds to make Him tame and accessible, to make Him seem approachable as one who fits neatly into our lives, and we forget that His is the voice of thunder and lightning. Our comfort is unsettling. It is an uncomfortable comfort...
We forget, with little difficulty, that it was God's justice, the necessity of His holiness, that brought death to give life."

Exodus 20:1
And God spoke all these words:
[dabar debar amar]:
Genesis 1:1-3
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ.
"Sometimes praise comes face to the ground, unable to move because we are so aware that this holy, terrifying God has busied Himself bring sus back to Him. Let the knowledge of His transcendence bring us back to life. Let it flow like blook to sleeping limbs, and feel them tingle as they awake in awe, Shake life back into your hands and let them clap of His goodness. Shake life back into your legs and let them carry you running with wind and thunder. Shake life back into your chest and let your heart beat in pounding reverence. Let praise come face to the ground, trembling with life and awareness that we are formed by a holy God."
