The film begins with a beautiful map of Middle-earth and an engrossing narration reminiscent of The Fellowship of the Ring. Miranda Otto narrates the prologue this time in the role of Éowyn, a beloved character who was first presented in The Two Towers. She establishes the scene for the protagonist, Héra, the determined daughter of Rohan's king Helm Hammerhand. Héra and Éowyn are similar in many ways, including their backgrounds. "The girl could ride a horse before she could walk," the narrator says. At a council meeting later in the narrative, Freca, a local lord who aspires to Helm's crown, aggressively proposes his son Wulf as a possible suitor for Héra.
