The War on Drugs Continued

Listen Later

Buckle up because this is another episode where I continue to breakdown the “War on Drugs.” In 1875, there was an ordnance banning opium dens in San Fransisco. This was the birth of racially motivated and prohibitive laws. Have you heard of man by the name of Harry Anslinger? In 1930, the Federal Bureau of Narcotics was created and Anslinger was the first commissioner. His bureau made many allegations such as drugs caused users to commit violent crimes, addicts induced others to become addicts as well as many racially motivated allegations targeting different marginalized groups. There is still so much to unpack when it comes to the War on Drugs so listen in to get a greater understanding of how the laws regarding Cannabis have changed and been influenced over time.
