The War on Drugs in the Philippines

Contributor(s): John Collins, Charlotte Eaton | It is impossible to specify the number of extrajudicial killings that have occurred in the Philippines since President Duterte announced his ‘war on drugs’ in May 2016. What is certain, however, is the disruptive impacts that these ‘strongman’ politics have had on daily life in that country. This short film shows how Philippine photojournalist Raffy Lerma has documented the human cost if this war. The LSE International Drugs Policy Unit works with campaigners, policy experts and politicians to combat the damaging effects of the war of drugs.
