The Watchman: Eyes on the Horizon

Listen Later

This powerful message invites us to reconsider our role as spiritual watchmen in today's world. Drawing from Ezekiel 33, we're reminded that God appoints watchmen not to fight battles themselves, but to sound the alarm when danger approaches. The watchman's success isn't measured by how many people respond to the warning, but by their faithfulness in delivering the message. We see this beautifully contrasted through Ezekiel and Jonah—one who suffered because of obedience, the other who learned obedience through suffering. What's striking is that Ezekiel faithfully warned God's covenant people for years, yet Jerusalem still fell, while Jonah reluctantly preached to pagan Nineveh for 40 days and the entire city repented. This teaches us that our responsibility is simply to be faithful messengers; the results belong to God. As Seventh-day Adventists and Christians, we carry the three angels' messages—calling people back to truth, helping them discern error from deception, and inviting wholehearted loyalty to Christ. The urgency is real because we're no longer waiting for prophetic signs; we're living in their fulfillment. The question we must each answer is: What trumpet has God placed in our hands? Who is He asking us to reach? The trumpet today might look like a conversation, a Bible study, a life that reflects Jesus, or simply an invitation to lunch. Silence isn't neutrality—it's neglecting our responsibility as watchmen in our sphere of influence.
