The Bhagavad Gita is essentially a short excerpt from a much, much larger story that was written thousands of years ago in India. It represents the central text of Bhakti Yoga, a path that comes from Hinduism. Think of it as sort of analogous to the Bible.
My entire relationship with Cordi is really founded on this text; the first conversation we had started because she saw me reading it, and our shared love for this holy book provided the foundation of our friendship, and later romantic relationship.
She was re-reading it recently and we had the idea to pick out a few verses and discuss it on the podcast. This is our first attempt at doing so, and we'll likely continue to dig into this book more over time.
The idea really comes from another podcast called Wisdom of the Sages, where two ex-monks (not your typical monks - one of them was in a hardcore punk band and has been interviewed by Joe Rogan) go line-by-line through the Srimad Bhagavatam, the larger text which contains the Gita within it. Each day they read a few lines and translate the eternal wisdom of this ancient holy text into something applicable to our day to day lives.
