THE DISCIPLE LIFE

The Way - Lesson 6 - Jesus’ Name

Listen Later

What if God didn’t give us three names—but one revealed name that carries all His authority?

In this episode, we step into one of the most powerful truths in Scripture: the power of Jesus’ Name. If Lesson 5 showed us the New Birth is required, Lesson 6 shows us the Name is essential—because in every birth, the child receives a family name, and in every salvation story in Acts, the believer receives the Name.

We start with a stunning connection:

Isaiah says the one true God swears, “every knee shall bow”—and Paul says that same prophecy will happen at the name of Jesus. The Bible isn’t presenting two Gods. It’s unveiling one God with one saving name.

From there, we walk through the pattern the apostles followed:

• Jesus tells them repentance and remission must be preached in His name

• Peter obeys on Pentecost: Repent…be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ…

• Samaritans are baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus

• Cornelius’ household is commanded to be baptized in Jesus’ name

• The disciples in Ephesus are rebaptized in the name of the Lord Jesus

• Paul is told to wash away sins while calling on the name of the Lord

That’s not one isolated verse—it’s a consistent apostolic record.

Then we tackle the big question:

How can Matthew 28:19 say “Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,” but Acts shows baptism in Jesus’ name?

Because Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are titles—not personal names—and Jesus commanded baptism in the name (singular). The apostles understood that the one revealed name that fulfills those titles is Jesus—the Father’s saving name, the Son’s given name, and the Spirit sent in His name.

And it doesn’t stop at baptism.

Jesus promised that signs would follow believers “in my name”—and the book of Acts proves it:

• The lame man walks because of faith in His name

• Demons come out when commanded in the name of Jesus Christ

• Healing and deliverance are tied to the authority of the Name—not a formula, but faith in who He is

This episode will lift Jesus’ Name out of religious tradition and put it back where Scripture places it: at the center of salvation, prayer, power, and identity.

🎙️ If you’ve ever wondered why we pray “in Jesus’ name,” why Acts baptism is “in Jesus’ name,” and why deliverance is “in Jesus’ name”—this lesson gives the biblical answer:

There is one Lord… and His name is one.
