Erik Caballero built OX Plumbing out of a van in Mesa, Arizona. He's five years in now and can tell you his margins. For most of the run before that, he couldn't. Money came in, money went out, and he ran the company off the balance in his bank account.
In this episode he says that out loud, and Arrow, the guy who came in and organized his numbers, walks through exactly what he found when he opened the books.
Then I get into the part nobody warned me about. Your business is probably the best wealth building tool you'll ever own, and at some point keeping everything inside it becomes the risk. I go through the test I use before I take money out, the mistake I'm still making today, and what I actually paid myself in the early years.
If you're one to three years in and the money is coming in but the wealth isn't, this one is for you.
WHAT YOU'LL HEAR
How Erik picked plumbing, failed the license exam seven times, then quit his job and studied for a month straight.
The first six months in the van, when the phone rang about ten times
Knocking doors and handing out pamphlets, because it cost him nothing but time
Erik in his own words: "Money was coming in, money was going out. I didn't even know what I was even making."
What Arrow walked into: one revenue account, one credit card, some personal expenses mixed in, and a profit check that came down to seeing if anything was left after the card got paid.
What changed once the financial statements were real: he can price the work, buy a truck, hire, and they're getting a shop.
The test I use before I pull money out of a business, and the reserve I keep first
My own confession: 72 percent of my net worth is tied up in privately held businesses I own. That's way too high. I don't always practice what I preach.
Why trading a high return for a lower return asset isn't a downgrade, it's buying stability.
What I actually paid myself: $20,000, then $36,000, then $36,000, then $600,000, while living off savings in a two bedroom apartment in Detroit
Where the 10 Laws came from, and why the first one is that you have to believe you're worthy of wealth before you build any.

Most money advice tells you to hold on tighter. This law says the opposite — give 10% of everything you make away, and watch it come back.
Allan sits down with Brian to break down one of the 10 Laws that govern money — the one most people push back on. It starts with Juan, a fisherman in a small Chilean village who threw his nets in the same spots as everyone else, but somehow always pulled them up fuller. No better boat. No bigger crew. He just gave away a tenth of everything he made.
From there they get into the real stuff: scarcity vs. abundance, the faith it takes to sacrifice now for something you can't see yet, why you start at 1% instead of 10, and the rule Allan lived by — a million in net worth before you buy the expensive car (he was driving a 2010 Nissan Altima at a $10M net worth). They close on the ice cube: why you heat it every day and see nothing… slowly, then suddenly, it's gone.
If you're an owner a few years in — the money's finally coming in, but the wealth isn't — this one's for you.

Allan Draper sits down with his guest host, Brian Bressler — a 23-year-old fresh out of the University of Delaware who moved to Arizona, built a real estate networking group from nothing, and just launched his own insurance brokerage. The idea is simple: Allan gets to have the conversation he wishes someone had with his 23-year-old self, and Brian pushes back with what actually feels hard for someone starting today.
They get into the first law that governs money — the one Allan says nothing else works without: you have to believe you're worthy of wealth before you'll ever build it. Brian shares his real goals (a million this year with his business partner) and his real fears (a generation that was never taught how money works). And Allan lays down the first pieces of structure — save 10% you never touch, get ahead of your taxes when you're 1099, and start the habit while the numbers are still small.
Because here's the thing: you can have a million dollars and still not be a millionaire. The money always falls back to your habits.
If you're early in the journey — money starting to come in, wealth still nowhere in sight — start here.

Dave Ramsey says all debt is bad. Allan respectfully disagrees with one part of that. In this episode of The Wealth Code, Allan breaks down the real difference between good debt and bad debt—and why credit isn't actually the enemy.
Using credit to fund a lifestyle you cannot afford is the enemy. Allan walks through the difference clearly: debt that produces income is entirely different from debt that funds appearance. He uses the pest control truck example to show how a vehicle loan that generates revenue is an asset, while the exact same loan to impress people at the gas station is a liability.
He also introduces the credit card jail rule: if you have carried a balance in the last six months, it's cash only for the next six months. No exceptions. No rationalizing.
Finally, Allan covers what business debt should look like for a PCO owner who is growing intentionally versus one who is growing recklessly.
Make sure to subscribe and tune in next week, because we are bringing in someone who knows more about debt, credit scores, and financing than almost anyone.

Welcome to the very first episode of Cracking the Wealth Code with your host, Alan Draper!
If you're looking for someone to tell you that buying a Lambo will make you rich or that playing it safe is the best way to secure your financial future, you're in the wrong place. In this raw and unfiltered debut episode, Alan gets straight to the uncomfortable truths about money, wealth, and why your current habits are keeping you broke.
Drawing from his own journey from growing up in a cramped 1,200 square foot house in a farming community to building multiple million-dollar businesses Alan breaks down the stark difference between looking wealthy and actually being wealthy. He exposes the fake gurus flexing on social media and shares eye-opening stories, like the high-earning surgeons who were living paycheck to paycheck despite their massive house and luxury cars.
It's not about how much money you make; it's about how you spend it, save it, and invest it.
In this episode, Alan distills everything he's learned from reading over 100 financial books and building real-world businesses into The 10 Laws of Money the exact principles he used to go from broke to multi-millionaire:
Believe You Are Worthy You must believe you deserve wealth before you can build it.
Give 10% Give away 10% of everything you make.
Save 10% Save at least 10% and never spend it (investing doesn't count as spending).
Delay Gratification Put off short-term pleasure for long-term wealth building.
Take Risks You must be willing to step outside your comfort zone.
Build Passive Income Stop trading all your time for money.
Diversify Your Assets Mix high, medium, and low-risk investments.
Create Multiple Streams of Income — Don't rely on just one paycheck.
Buy Low, Sell High Be greedy when others are fearful, and fearful when others are greedy.
Use Debt for Growth Leverage debt strategically for incremental growth.
This podcast isn't designed to make you feel warm and fuzzy; it's designed to make you uncomfortable enough to change your habits and take control of your financial destiny.
Whether you're a small business owner, an entrepreneur, or someone tired of living paycheck to paycheck, this show is for you. If you're ready to stop doing the same thing and expecting different results, hit that SUBSCRIBE button!
