The National Party's announced that, if re-elected, they will make it a criminal offence to withhold information from Police when a child aged 12 or under has been killed and adults were present.
National's Justice Spokesperson Paul Goldsmith says the change is aimed at cases where people refuse to speak to police, preventing those responsible from being brought to justice.
The proposed offence would carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, but it also raises a question about how our right to silence can be tossed, and the risk of unintended consequences.
Chief Victims Advisor Ruth Money joins Tim Beveridge to discuss what this proposal means...

More New Zealanders are looking to their Kiwisaver to get them to the future, or to their first-home with the property market on a down-turn.
Because of that, the election's become a more vested interest for voters, with the future of their KiwiSaver determined by what Government forms. So what are parties promising, where do they differ, and what would it mean for our funds?
ACT's proposed tax cuts on our Kiwisaver at the cost of the scrapping Government contribution, National's proposed an incremental increase on the default contribution, and Labour wants to boost employer contributions. What does that all mean for us who may be retiring soon, looking for a first home, or just entering work?

National wants to lower the bowel screen age, extend breast screening, and make cervical screening free.
But something like cancer can often run in the family, so how much risk can we actually mitigate through healthy-living choice? What signs should we look for?
