I’m not one to pay attention to what other people do to influence what I’m drinking – but the recent annoucement of Cincinnati’s ‘HighBall’ in OTR got me wondering if this is a sign of people not wanting big drinks… or if it’s just a part of the natural ebb and flow of the bar industry. How does one solve a riddle such as this? You drink a big old HighBall, that’s how.
We might be getting ahead of ourselves.
To kick off this week’s episode of The Weekly Pint we’re continued the journey that is lovingly called the “rumination” – that is my journey thorough the world of rum (one glass at a time, of couse) with a taste of one that I haven’t been looking forward to: Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum. It might not come as a surprise to most of you who have tried it before – but it’s not very good. Lots of vanilla, very “fake” tasting… not something I’ll be chomping at the bit to try again any time soon.
Evidently you’re supposed to put it with coke.
I jumped into this week’s news with the closure of Highball, and then to make things a little happier, shared the fun news that Fabled Brew Works is currently on the way to Copenhangen for an international tap takeover. I’m not how that happens, or what the crowd at an event like this will look like – but I think it’s awesome, and if my wife would let me, I’d be on a plane right now to go support.
From here, we covered the death of Schlitz at the hands of their Pabst ownership group a sad story for anyone who is a fan of legacy brands, or regional brands that hold on tight to the historic side of things.
A chonky can of MadTree’s Queen City Pale Ale led into a detective session about what Craft Beer-centric restaurant might be for sale (or might be sold aready?) and that quickly moved into a can of something called Ožujsko – and no… I have no idea how to pronounce it.
If you like this episode, really, if you like any of the stuff that I make you can support this, me, and the stuff by becoming a ‘Gnomie’ at https://www.TheGnarlyGnome.com/support
