Twins, Betty and Bev have a knack for sniffing out danger, and a greater knack for getting in over their heads. Suspicious, they follow a stranger and find the situation is far worse than they could have imagined. Sheriff Scott and their Dad try desperately to keep them safe, but Betty and Bev are determined to help.
Betty Inman Shortt transports readers back to 1950's rural America for an adventure with many twists and harrowing situations. With humor as well as suspense, she shows that girls can be strong, witty, and clever, and illustrates a stark contrast between good and evil.
Members Reviews:
A lively tale that tells the of of twins, Betty and Beverly, who have a "Special Power"that allows them to snif out danger.
What starts as the special treat of going out for lunch at the local cafe, turns into a great adventure for the feisty young Inman twins, Betty and Beverly. The twins certainly have a knack for getting themselves into hot water. Even the kind that is dangerously boiling.
You see, the girls had something different and special about them. Was it an overdeveloped intuitive power? Was it telepathy, or ESP? No one really believed any of this was true, except maybe their Grandfather. As they sat in the only café in the small town of Sparta, Missouri, they both sensed there was something going wrong with their Sunday school teacher, Mrs. Clemens, who was sitting in the corner of the cafe with a much younger, handsome stranger.
The girls knew that their sense of danger for Mrs. Clemens was not caused by being overly curious, as their adored mother thought. They looked at each other, and without words, agreed that they had to help their friend.
The twins are about to meet the diabolical duo of Clint and Ruth. The tale told here is one which will cause the hair to rise up on your head when the girls are in the clutches of the evil Ruth, and her hapless sidekick, Clint. Then you will roll with laughter when the flipped out twins cross a putrid pig sty while trying to escape from their ruthless nemesis!
What happens in this exciting adventure will make this book a totally amazing page turner for grade school children as well as adults.
I highly recommend the book for all ages
Since I grew up in the same area and went to the same school as the Inman twins, I can relate to the names of the people, the towns, and the general farm environment portrayed in the story. Of course, the story line is fiction, but everything else is fact, or close to it. Betty and Beverly were one year behind me in school, and I helped my stepfather haul the milk from their dairy to Springfield. When I started reading the book, I didn't know what to expect, especially since the story was written for juvenile audiences. The plot held my interest all the way through, and I finished the book at one setting. I highly recommend the book for all ages.
Fun!
This is a great adventure for pre-teens and adults alike. Amidst the fun, there are lessons for using our minds, using skills, trusting adults and caring for others. The tension of being afraid for the twins lives are relieved with laugh-out loud comical scenes. I am sure everyone's favorite is the pig pen. Please tell me this is the first of a series of adventures for these twins.
The Inman Twins
This book is like The Bobbsey Twins meets Nancy Drew.
