If we were supposed to cry in chapter 1 and have a knowing smile in chapter 2, then in chapter 3, we’re supposed to feel tense. There is a huge amount of tension in this passage because the reader is left wondering whether Boaz, the Redeemer, will welcome Ruth the outsider or not. He’s an option for a redeemer, but is he willing? What’s going to happen to an outsider like Ruth? Let’s explore this passage to see Naomi’s plan, Ruth’s faith and Boaz’s response.
