West Memphis is a modest community of roughly 26, 000 residents situated on the Arkansas side of the Mississippi River, directly opposite Memphis, Tennessee . In the early‑1990s, the town was relatively quiet, its population spread across a few neighborhoods and a small‑town school system. The tranquility of the town would be shattered in early May 1993 when three of its youngest citizens vanished.
