The couple had separated just three days earlier after Teresa discovered her husband William's affair, and she was preparing to file for divorce. Lieutenant Roseman of the Fifth Precinct suspects William Post, despite his alibi from his mistress Jane Hughes, because the robbery appears staged—a cloth coat was stolen while an expensive mink remained untouched.
