In 1886, the eccentric widow and heiress of the Winchester rifle fortune, Sarah Winchester, moved to San Jose and purchased an 8 room farmhouse.  Over the next 36 years, she would engage in a perpetual rennovation and expansion project that saw the construction of hundreds of rooms and countless, seemingly pointless, features.
