Luna drives a county road south of Salina one October night when the wind is wrong. She stops at a collapsed farmhouse that was never supposed to be there — the Strahorn Place, a name that appears on no map. A neighbor woman tells her about the children who played inside after it was abandoned, about the sound they made when they called to each other through the walls. Luna goes inside anyway, because the wind is pulling at her coat, and because she saw something move behind a broken window. She finds a room that should not exist, and a door that should not open. The wind stops before she reaches for the handle.
