Welcome to Raven's Readings. I'm reading from The Wind in the Willows, a children's novel written by the British writer, Kenneth Grahame. It's a collection, published in 1908, of bedside stories he had told his son, Alastair. These stories feature various animals, including Mole, Ratty, Badger, and their eccentric friend, Toad.

Last time, Toad wandered the woods, almost got recaptured several times, and finally ended up safe and sound at Ratty's place. He hopes to have a quick rest and return home, but that won't be so easy, as we discover in the next chapter, the penultimate one.

I do readings twice a week. Please subscribe to my Substack newsletter, and you'll be notified of my updates as soon as they are ready. If you enjoy this reading, or have other classics you'd like to hear, leave me a comment. I think my next choice will be The Big Sleep, a hardboiled crime novel written in 1939 by Raymond Chandler, introducing his character Philip Marlowe. It was first adapted to film in 1946, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.

Remember that you can manage here which sections of my SubStack you’ll receive emails for—fiction, Odds and Ends, Political Bytes, Podcastings, or all.
