A number of the parables of Jesus had both a near and a far interpretation. Jesus talked about the end of the age, which was the near meaning for the listeners of his day. He spoke of a harvest at the end of hte age where the wheat and the tares would be gathered and sorted. This chapter of revelation covers this point, and considers the reaping, the harvest of the land at the end of the old covenant age.
