Dr. Janice May Newsome is a Chief & Director of Interventional Radiology at Emory University School of Medicine. She was recently named the recipient of The Women in IR Champion Award, an award presented by the Society of Interventional Radiology to recognize an individual who has consistently made a significant contribution to the advancement of women in IR, such as in sponsorship, mentorship, teaching, promotion, advocacy, and recruitment. In this episode, Dr. Newsome shares her insights on the significance of mentorship in radiology and how it can shape the careers of medical professionals. Then, we discuss the gender gap within the field with Dr. Newsome dispelling some of the popular myths surrounding women's involvement in interventional radiology (IR) before touching on strategies for achieving work-life integration, including intentionality with one's time. Finally, we discuss the impact of social media on the medical community, examining its opportunities and challenges.
