This section of Matthew is important - important enough, that it's mentioned in all 4 gospels - in Mark 8, Luke 9 and John 6. The point at issue here is WHO Jesus is. It makes a huge difference, because if Jesus is just a nice man, a great teacher, or an ancient philosopher with things to say that still apply today, then we are still in need of a savior.--But if Jesus is who He says He is - then God has come to rescue us and we have hope for the future.
