Sermon Notes—“The Word of the Year”

December 27, 2015
KLC 2015 Theme: Seeking His Kingdom “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

The Word of the Year for 2015:

OVERCOMER - one who gets the better of a struggle or conflict.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Peter 1:3–5 (ESV)

14 I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.

Ecclesiastes 1:14 (ESV)

As Christians we are already OVERCOMERS because we have been given victory over death.

But we’re also called to be OVERCOMERS.

14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 1 Peter 1:14–15 (ESV)

Living as an overcomer means knowing the will of God and responding in OBEDIENCE with PERSEVERANCE.

Don't allow opinions or circumstances convince you that you're DEFEATED.

24 Five times I received at the hands of the Jews the forty lashes less one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I was adrift at sea;
2 Corinthians 11:24–25 (ESV)

12 Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

1 Peter 2:12 (ESV)

19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

2 Corinthians 5:19–20 (ESV)

Our purpose is to see God glorified on the earth, so our weaknesses and inadequacies are ASSETS, not LIABILITIES.

7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
2 Corinthians 4:7 (ESV)

9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)

The only thing left to overcome is YOURSELF.
