Pastor Tony and Lady Laura Simon welcome viewers to Word on Wednesday, pray, and finish their Genesis journey by teaching through Genesis 50. They describe Jacob/Israel’s death, Joseph’s grief, and the Egyptian embalming and extended mourning, noting the dignitary-level honor shown by Pharaoh’s household and Egypt’s leaders. Joseph seeks Pharaoh’s approval to keep his promise to bury Jacob in the family tomb at Machpelah in Canaan, leading a large procession and returning to Egypt afterward. Joseph’s brothers fear he will retaliate once their father is gone, but Joseph tells them not to be afraid, that he is not God, and that although they meant evil, God meant it for good to preserve many lives. The Simons emphasize forgiveness without “forgetting,” learning from scars, obedience through suffering, and God’s larger plan, then invite listeners to their podcast and Zoom prayer and close in prayer.

In this The Word on Wednesday episode, Pastor Tony Simon recaps Genesis 46 and walks through Genesis 47, highlighting God’s promise to Jacob not to fear going to Egypt and Joseph’s strategy of presenting five brothers to Pharaoh, resulting in Jacob’s family settling in Goshen, the “best of the land,” during a severe famine. The lesson contrasts Israel’s provision and growth in Goshen with Egypt’s famine-driven economic collapse, where Joseph gathers money, then livestock, then land for Pharaoh, and finally establishes a 20% harvest statute while giving the people seed to sow. Jacob blesses Pharaoh, testifies about his 130 years, lives 17 more years in Egypt, and asks Joseph to bury him with his fathers. The episode closes by explaining Israel’s later slavery through Exodus 1:8—a new king who knew not Joseph—and urging prayer, stewardship, and maintaining faith.

Join us for another Word on Wednesday with the Simons. In tonight’s episode, we dive into Genesis chapter 44 (verses 1–34) and follow the next turn in Joseph’s story as he tests his brothers by placing a silver cup in Benjamin’s sack. We open with prayer, then walk through the text as the brothers are accused, searched, and forced to face what it would mean to return home without the son their father can’t bear to lose. The conversation highlights how God’s providence and sovereignty can be working even when circumstances feel unfair, and how trials expose the heart—revealing integrity, repentance, and sacrificial love. We also discuss the difference between forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration, and why “the cup in the bag” can be part of God’s strategy to transform us and prepare us to help others.
