This is our seventh episode, brought to you by the Prince Mahidol Award Conference 2023: Setting A New Health Agenda - At The Nexus Of Climate Change, Environment and Biodiversity. The conference will be held on the 24-29 January 2023, Bangkok, Thailand.
In a wide ranging discussion, Jonathan Foster and Benita Kayembe talk about everything from power relations between various interest groups around the world, the validity and success of top down solutions in global health and environmental activism, and ways to rebalance these inequalities. They discuss the need for a holistic approach to fully understanding and analysing the range of crises we are facing, and the importance of inviting all parties to “ the table”.
Benita Kayembe is a teaching fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the US. Amongst other things Benita works to improve social determinants of global health, with a focus on the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Subsaharan Africa. Benita employs qualitative research to address socio-economic challenges facing underprivileged communities and has been researching community experience with mining, including cobalt for electric car batteries.
