The wrath of God is declared against all unrighteousness and ungodliness. God is holy, righteous, just, and must punish sin. Since God is immutable, we face the same holy Judge that we read in the Old Testament. The wrath of God is deserved. No one is innocent and ignorant - every sinner is aware and rebellious. The wrath of God delivers people over to their own passions. The presence of resistance against sin is actually a mark of God's grace, and removal of that resistance is abandonment to judgment. Finally, the wrath of God was discharged on Christ. We see God's wrath most powerfully revealed on Calvary. The wrath of God taken on by Christ for the elect is more than the wrath that will ever be discharged on the inhabitants of hell.
