The Writer is the story of a privileged aspiring novelist who retreats into a luxury high-rise apartment to finally finish his book, only to spend the day circling around distraction, jealousy, self-disgust, alcohol, and the fear that his real material is too close to home. As he thinks about literature, status, family, sex, money, and the writer he wants to become, the act of writing itself keeps slipping further away. It is a sharp, satirical story about ambition, avoidance, artistic insecurity, and the gap between wanting to be a writer and actually writing.
