The Year Ahead 2018 Panel Discussion: New Horizons - Cyberattacks and Missile Defence
Panelists: Stephanie MacLellan (CIGI), Torey McMurdo (DOD/Yale University) and Scott Jones (Community Security Establishment)
About: This panel examines new horizons including the growing scope and damage done through cyber-attacks and the need for more “defence” (whether passively or offensively employed). Issues explored include cyber vulnerabilities to Canada’s infrastructure, and new missile defence options (both ballistic and cruise). Each of these issues is expected to be solved in part by technology. Whether it is a replacement for the North Warning system, protection of private packets of information on the internet or new satellite configurations, all involve new technologies that can be exploited leading to increased political tensions.
