After Midnight Tales

The Yellow Raincoat Curse

Listen Later

Describes a first-person account of someone who decides to revisit the kind of scary stories they used to enjoy. They quickly grow frustrated with the predictable, repetitive material they find online and start searching through older, forgotten corners of the internet. In one of these hidden places, they come across a disturbing story titled "Don't read this if you like sleeping." That story introduces a sinister figure called the girl in the yellow raincoat, an entity that appears to anyone who learns about her. After reading it, the narrator begins seeing her—first from a distance, then progressively closer each night—feeding on their growing fear. What begins as casual curiosity becomes a fight for survival as the narrator desperately searches for information and a way to stop what is happening. Eventually, they discover the horrifying rule behind the haunting: the only way to escape is to write down the tale and make someone else read it, transferring the burden to a new victim. The text ends at 3:41 a.m., with the narrator reluctantly sharing the story to save themselves, fully aware that doing so dooms someone else.
