At Drexel University, David M. Goldberg, PhD, is a Professor and the Head of the Department of Physics. He is a theoretical astrophysicist specializing in large-scale structure, clusters of galaxies, and gravitational lensing. 


Academic Leadership & Appointments
Department Head: He serves as the head of the Department of Physics at Drexel's College of Arts and Sciences.
Professor of Physics: He has been a professor at Drexel since 2012, having initially joined as an assistant professor in 2001.
Previous Administrative Roles: His past leadership roles at Drexel include Associate Head for Undergraduate Studies (2015–2024) and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education (2014–2018). 


Research Interests & Discoveries
Specializations: His research focuses on theoretical and computational cosmology, extragalactic astrophysics, and gravitational lensing.
Map Creation: He was part of a team that created what is described as the most accurate flat map of the world, featuring a double-sided circle design.
Publications: He has co-authored nearly 100 publications on topics such as weak gravitational lensing and galaxy mass functions.

Dr. Goldberg is an author of several popular science books and a textbook: 
The Standard Model in a Nutshell (2017), published by Princeton University Press.
The Universe in the Rearview Mirror: How Hidden Adymmetries Shape Reality (2013).
A User's Guide to the Universe: Surviving the Perils of Black Holes, Time Paradoxes, and Quantum Uncertainty (2010). 


Education & Background
PhD: Astrophysics from Princeton University (2000), where his dissertation focused on running simulations backward in time.
MA: Astrophysics from Princeton University (1998).
BA: Astronomy and Physics from Boston University (1996), graduating Summa cum Laude.
Postdoctoral Work: Before Drexel, he was a Gibbs Lecturer in Astronomy at Yale University (2000–2001).
