To me, being an effective communicator meant ensuring that those who spoke, and those who listened, felt seen. I merely desired whites to acknowledge that they would never know what it was like to be black. There was no study for it, and there was no need to study us. It was merely an experience. I wasn’t here for the continuous states of oblivion. Acknowledgement, awareness, acceptance and truth always opened the door for trust and authenticity.
