I rarely fly on the day of a concert, but when I do, I watch for last-minute gate changes. On one such trip I started early from Tennessee and landed in Atlanta to change planes. I was extremely hungry, and I spotted a restaurant serving breakfast sandwiches, but I decided not to take a chance on the long line. Instead, I grabbed a yogurt parfait and headed to my gate, as I tried to ignore the smell of the bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches that I really wanted. My flight to Houston was out of Gate B50. I found a seat and opened my parfait, chuckling as I thought about how I had never seen John Wayne eating yogurt parfait by a campfire.
I fly a lot and know that gate changes can happen suddenly, so I always watch the monitor like a hungry hawk. All of a sudden, the monitor changed from Houston to St. Louis. I said out loud, “Here we go.” The lady sitting next to me asked, “What do you mean?” I explained, “The monitor just changed.” She said, “My ticket says ‘Gate B50’ and they told me to go to the number on my ticket.”
Just then, a gate agent announced, “There has been a gate change for flight 1912 to Houston. The new gate is B36.” The lady next to me was dumbfounded as she followed the rest of us to our new gate. You see, Atlanta is the busiest airport in the world, but there was only one flight going to Houston at 10:50 a.m.
The most important ticket we can ever have is to our ultimate destination, heaven, so let’s make sure we don’t miss that flight.
