There Is Hope Part 1

Listen Later

Sermon Notes:

Psalm 42:5 (NIV) – Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Genesis 12:2-3 (NLT) – I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

Romans 4:18-22 (NLT) – Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!” And Abraham’s faith did not weaken, even though, at about 100 years of age, he figured his body was as good as dead—and so was Sarah’s womb. Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises. And because of Abraham’s faith, God counted him as righteous.

Four Reasons You Can Put Your Hope in Our Promise-Keeping God:

1. God is Unchanging
James 1:17 (NLT) – Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

2. God is Trustworthy
Hebrews 10:23 (NLT) – Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.

3. God is Truthful
Hebrews 6:18 (NLT) – So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.

4. God Keeps His Word
Romans 4:21 (NLT) – He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.

Romans 4:19-21 (MSG) – Abraham didn’t focus on his own impotence and say, “It’s hopeless. This hundred-year-old body could never father a child.” Nor did he survey Sarah’s decades of infertility and give up. He didn’t tiptoe around God’s promise asking cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God would make good on what he had said.
