There are diseases and health conditions, such as epilepsy, which cause people to have seizures. Medicines have been created to reduce these incidents. On the other hand, psychiatry, utilizing electroshock, or ECT, is the only industry which seeks to cause seizures on purpose, in the misguided belief that they are somehow therapeutic to people suffering from depression. They are not. ECT fires 400 volts through the brain, searing the organ and killing brain cells. Despite psychiatry's assurances of only temporary memory loss, ECT in fact destroys memory and can even cause brain damage or death. John Breeding, Ph.D. explains what makes a psychiatrist deliver such inhuman “treatment” to another person—the training, the subverted ethics, the money—and how like all of psychiatry, this brutal $5 billion-a-year industry exists in an utter scientific void in this 32-minute show.
